Illumicrate Unboxing | The City Is Ours | February 2021

Theme of the Box

Description by Illumicrate

Our February theme is THE CITY IS OURS! This month we’re inspired by stories that take place in cities we love or dream to visit, either real or imaginary!

Our featured book is a YA urban fantasy debut with an ensemble cast of teenagers from a magical underworld working together to stop a killer. For every murder that takes place in the human world, the fae realm is at greater risk of being discovered. Can they figure out the truth in time? This book absolutely perfect for you if you’re a fan of The Cruel Prince & Shadowhunters! We love this cast of characters, the interesting world & mythology the author created and of course, the snarky banter!

The Items

Lunathion Umbrella
Inspired by Crescent City
Designed by Chatty Nora

I love this umbrella and I am a fan of the series. However, I live in Manchester and would be terrified to actually use this and risk it breaking it.

Decorative Plate
Inspired by: The Gilded Wolves
Designed by: Fez Inkwright

I’m not in this fandom but my god this decorative plate is gorgeous.

Money Talks Card Holder
Inspired by: The City We Become
Designed by: Dionna Gary Bunn

This is my least favourite item in the box – I don’t know the book and it’s not an item I would ever use.

The Home of the Last Falconer Print
Inspired by The Falconer
Designed by: Jess Taylor

Another item I’m not a huge fan of, it’s okay but I’m not in the fandom and so it’s not something I love like other artwork that’s been in before.

Be Yourself Wooden Coaster
Inspired by: The Cemetery Boys
Designed by: No0neDesigns

I love this book and this coaster is really intricately designed. Love, love, love.

This edition comes with sprayed edges and is signed by the author.

For centuries, the Eight Courts of Folk have lived among us, concealed by magic and bound by law to do no harm to humans. This arrangement has long kept peace in the Courts—until a series of gruesome and ritualistic murders rocks the city of Toronto and threatens to expose faeries to the human world. An “ironborn” half-fae outcast, a tempestuous fury, a dutiful fae prince and his brooding guardian, each holding a piece of the truth, form a tenuous alliance in their effort to track down the mysterious killer. If they fail, they risk the destruction of the faerie and human worlds alike. If that’s not bad enough, there’s a war brewing between the Mortal and Immortal Realms, and one of these teens is destined to tip the scales. The only question is: which way? Wish them luck. They’re going to need it.

Monthly Collectors Pin by Stacey McEvoy-Caunt

Inspired by the philosopher’s stones in the book.

I liked a couple of the items in this box, others not so much. I think the novel sounds really interesting and I’m looking forward to tucking into it.
