The UK is in lockdown so I decided to use the money I wasn’t spending on travelling to work to get two subscription boxes. I’ll be posting an unboxing for both Illumicrate and Book Box Club. These will contain spoilers so no peeking if you’re still waiting for your box.
Theme of the Box
Description by Illumicrate
Do you ever wonder what you’d be doing during a specific historical time period? If we’d lived during the French Revolution, we like to think we’d be busting people who shouldn’t be in prison out of it, just like the badass crew in our April book! But with their most recent jailbreak, this crack team definitely get more than they bargained for. Will they all make it out of this job unscathed?
The Items
Portable Power Bank
Inspired by Aurora Rising
Design by @icanddrawthings
I wasn’t expecting there to be a phone charger in this box but here it is and how could I resist taking a picture of the charger with my copy of Aurora Rising.
Character Bookmark Set
Inspired by: The Witchland series
Designed by: @Merwild
I’m not familiar with this series of books but I thought these were beautifully designed and a lovely addition to my growing box of bookmarks.
Magnetic Whiteboard
Inspired by: The Gilded Wolves
Designed by: @AenteeReads
I’ll be honest, I don’t think I will ever use this but that isn’t a negative against the box, not everything that is included is going to be useful to everyone.
Tote Bag
Inspired by The Lord of the Rings
Design by @Rachel Bostick
Who doesn’t need more tote bags, I really loved the design on this bag.
Pen
Exclusive to Illumicrate
I do love a good pen, and this one writes really smoothly. It’s sadly not refillable so I will be using it sparingly.
Featured Book: Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn
This edition has a signed bookplate with exclusive sprayed edges and embossing on the hardcover underneath the jacket. The box also included artwork of the characters by @Nicole.deal.art
Camille, a revolutionary’s daughter, leads a band of outcasts – a runaway girl, a deserter, an aristocrat in hiding. As the Battalion des Mortes they cheat death, saving those about to meet a bloody end at the blade of Madame La Guillotine. But their latest rescue is not what she seems. The girl’s no aristocrat, but her dark and disturbing powers means both the Royalists and the Revolutionaries want her. But who and what is she?
In these dangerous days, no one can be trusted, everyone is to be feared. As Camille learns the truth, she’s forced to choose between loyalty to those she loves and the future.
I was quite happy with my first box from Illumicrate. I thought all the artwork was gorgeous, and there were some useful items included too!
