When I Was

When I was three, I lost my Ben
my trusty canine friend.
All those years that could’ve been
came to a sad sad end.

When I was six, I met Kayleigh
she liked to be the winner.
I remember that day you see
when I had grass for dinner.

When I was nine, a car came by
And knocked me off my feet.
I stared at the sky and asked why
I played in the street.

When I was twelve, I got so thin
all I could do was pout.
Stare in the mirror and pinch my skin
as I threw the food out.

When I was fifteen, I was a liar
I said that I was fine.
I couldn’t repress my own desire
To end my own bloodline.

When I was eighteen, they broke free
my dark and haunting dreams
They came out here for all to see
me breaking at the seams.

Finally I was twenty-one
The world became so clear.
I have a life, I have someone
I have nothing to fear.
